Ariadne Randall: Orchids

In this new multichannel work Ariadne Randall reflects the vanishingly delicate colors and ephemeral scents of the orchidacea with sound at the limits of audibility, drifting in the echoing space of Semmelweisklinik. Aside from being lesbian as hell, orchids are dazzlingly speciose: one in ten plant species is an orchid, and many are critically endangered. The work is dedicated to N.F.

Ariadne Randall is an American artist, composer, and author based in Vienna. In her work, she builds worlds through transmedial storytelling. Through strategies of material depth and formal juxtaposition, she creates spaces for imagination in sound, language, and image. She holds degrees in classical composition and contemporary art from UCLA and Bard MFA. Her works have been seen and heard in various places—from the Lincoln Center and a recent song cycle for the Volksoper Vienna to countless basements. Her Reverse Cowgirl Quartet (with McKenzie Wark) rides on her gender transition toward larger questions of identity and becoming. Her debut album as a transgender woman was released in 2024 on Oxtail Recordings to great critical acclaim. She is represented by Galerie Peter Gaugy (Brussels/Vienna).

Claussen - Klement

Martina Claussen — voice, objects & electronics
Katharina Klement — zither & electronics

The duo Claussen - Klement was founded in 2019, and spatiality has been a driving force for their musical setup from the very beginning. The possibility of moving between different sound sources allows ideas such as masking, contrast, or temporal shifts within the channels to flow into the performance. The performers step into the visual background, illuminating and staging the loudspeakers and performance space rather than the actual instruments, working with analog and digital electronics, prepared zither, voice, objects, microphones, and pickups.

Each performance is based on a fundamental structure comparable to DNA, which provides enough freedom for improvisation and is rewritten anew each time.

Martina Claussen

The composer and vocal artist Martina Claussen explores and combines the sounds of the human voice and sound objects with field recordings, analogue and digital electronics. She explores the space and the performative action and has over the years steadily developed her own distinctive style of music. Coming from a background of classical vocal performance (amongst others performing at the Volksoper Vienna, the Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna), over the past 10 years she expanded her artistic practice into electronic music composition and performance. She has held performances at Festivals such as Ars Electronica / Austria, Musikprotokoll Graz / Austria, Musrara Mix / Israel, Festival Futura / France and the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival.
She works at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna where, since 2009, she holds the position of Associate Professor of Voice.

Katharina Klement

Katharina Klement was born in Graz, Austria. She studied piano, composition, and electroacoustic music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, as well as private studies in dance improvisation and sculpture.
She works as a “composer-performer” in the fields of composed and improvised, electronic and instrumental music. Her work includes numerous cross-disciplinary projects within the media of music, text, and video. She has a particular interest in the piano and extended playing techniques for it. She is the founder and member of several ensembles for improvised music (including Duo 3-Kanal, Duo Klement-Siewert, deepseafish-K, subshrubs, éclair, REDOX).

jörg piringer – oktabla

Eight computer voices speak texts generated in the moment and manipulated live: from understandable to abstract, concrete sound poetry, artificial blabla, now and then a hint of meaning flashes up, a content becomes apparent until it sinks back into the eight-voiced chorus of electronic speech output.

Born in 1974. Lives in Vienna. Is a member of the Institute for Transacoustic Research and the Vegetable Orchestra. Works in the gaps between language art, music, performance, and poetic software.

Fabian Lanzmaier & Andreas Zißler

Fabian Lanzmaier and Andreas Zißler present an improvised live performance based on their shared practice of site-specific audio installation. For the Moozak Multichannel Series, they focus on different methods of audio spatialisation. The performance draws on strategies and themes explored in their previous collaborative works, following their interest in real-time audio synthesis, feedback systems, spatial resonance, and non-linear systems.

Fabian Lanzmaier is a musician and sound artist living in Vienna. He is currently focusing on live performances that incorporate real-time audio synthesis and multichannel speaker setups, as well as site-specific audio installations, which often emerge from collaborative processes. He is interested in the possibilities and surprises that arise when working with systems and situations involving chance and unpredictability.

Andreas Zißler is an artist and architect. He is currently based in Vienna, Austria. His works are site-specific and performative and in the last years, sound has become a central element in his artistic practice. He is interested in integrating his work into environmental processes, letting go of expectations and control, and finding modes of negotiation within the environment he is working in. Most of his efforts result in site-specific installations, sculptural works, as well as performances and concerts.
